In 53 games played, Smith has 65 points with the regular season still in progress. Those numbers spoke to the type of season Smith was about to embark on. In his first six games of the season he jumped out to 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) and recorded 21 shots on goal. Smith returned to Spokane and right off the bat was named co-captain of his team alongside Los Angeles Kings 2017 second-round draft selection Jaret Anderson-Dolan.
